A Colorful Curious George First Birthday Party
My youngest was absolutely obsessed with Curious George. He’d light up at the sight of that ornery little monkey and it was a piece of my own childhood that I really enjoyed sharing with him. However, there was a major lack of George themed party supplies so I set out to make my own. This party is from the archives so there’s no step by step instructions to any of this, just pictures to inspire your own inner Man with the Yellow Hat.
We chose white as our base color and added blue, red and yellow to capture that whimsical feeling of Curious George! Photo displays are a wonderful way to personalize any event.
Flowers are an easy way to add textures and colors. The vases are also a great place to display photos! Throw some black construction paper around yellow cups and suddenly you have your very own yellow hats!
I found the metal lunch boxes on Zulily but almost everything else was sourced from used Curious George books and scrapbook paper.
I found the large paint can at Hobby Lobby and the small ones at Party City. They turned out perfect for our “paintbrushes”. We just put a cake pop stick in a Rice Krispie and then dipped it into melted chocolate wafers. Chocolate wafers come in all sorts of colors and make it easy to customize to your theme.
I always try to include PB&J since my little ones and their friends really enjoy the basics. However, I was shocked how quickly the frozen bananas dipped in chocolate disappeared. The banana cream pudding cups were also a hit and went perfectly with our theme.
Cupcakes are always a must have. I picked up these adorable drink dispensers at Hobby Lobby and added some yellow using lemons and lemonade, of course!
I used left over book pages to wrap around the utensils which was one of my favorite small details. I also used some scrap fabric and made a banner for our little monkey’s highchair. That banner also came in handy a few weeks prior while taking his pictures.
Almost all of these decoration ideas could be swapped out for another book or a different color scheme which is what makes party planning so fun!
